Out Live Your Life!

So I've been reading this book, Out Live Your Life by Max Lucado. I had wanted it for some time but I just didn't get around to buying the book. You see, I love books but I'm not a person that will sit down and read for hours at a time. I'm a read for 10 minutes when I have 10 minutes kind of reader.

Just before Christmas last year my wife and I were out shopping. We stopped in the local Christian book store to look around. There it was. Right in front of me. On Sale.

So we looked around, went our seperate ways within the store, and about 20 minutes later I met up with my wife and I had a few things in my hands. I handed them to her and said..."here's my Christmas list". It was the Out Live Your Life book, 2 Gaither Vocal Band Reunion DVDs (awesome by the way) and a desk calendar for work.

She was a little taken back that I was bold enough to just bring her what I wanted for Christmas. But I figured this way I get what I want and she doesn't have to worry about what to get me.

Ok, back to the book. Max always does a great job of just laying it on the line in his books. This one is no exception. I'm about halfway through (remember, 10 minutes at a time...) and am thouroughly enjoying it.

It's one of those books that goes chapter by chapter of how we should all be living and how we should make sure that we are sharing our faith with others to ensure they know the truth abougt God and his promises. What I like about it is that the book is not laid out like a Bible study. There's nothing wrong with a good Bible study, but when I'm reading a book I want some "story" to it and something to keep me interested. Max does a great job with this.

So far, one of my favorite parts is when he explains how his wife will ask him to go to the store on the way home and pick up some bread. He agrees, gets to the store, (and this is SOOOOO like me!) gets very distracted. He goes down the cookie aisle and remembers how he's so thankful God created Oreos. And the perfect God-inspired snack is Oreo cookies and milk. So on to the dairly aisle he goes to pick up some milk. All along the way he picks up some good snacks. Chips. Ice Cream. But never gets the bread.

He gets home, unloads the bags of groceries and his wife asks where the bread is. He turns around and goes back to the store.

His point is, we need to remember the bread. Bread is a staple. Just like God's Word is necessary in our every day lives. We can't forget to read and listen to God's Word.

Well, if you haven't already...get this book and read it. I would say that I have it in my online store www.bonanza.com/jkl_book_supply ...but I don't. Not sure this one I own will be sold. I may just keep it on my bookshelf to share with my kids as they get older.

We do have lots of great Christian gifts, Home Decor, used and new books, Bibles, Bibles, Bibles (traditional, electronic, on CD, Spanish, English).

Please stop by our store and browse. We offer layaway so just contact us and and I can give you some more information on that feature.

Have a great Sunday and as I read more of Max's book I'll post here what I find! Have any comments on Out Live Your Life? I'd be interested in your thoughts. Just leave comments.
